1. Identify the blocked sections. We examine overflow marks, outlet positions and the roof surfaces feeding the run. This helps locate debris that may be hidden behind a corner or hopper.
2. Arrange suitable access. The approach is chosen for the gutter height and surroundings. Conservatories, narrow passages and fragile roof surfaces are considered before clearance begins.
3. Remove the built-up material. Leaves, silt and moss are collected from the gutter. They are bagged rather than pushed into the outlet and left to block the downpipe.
4. Check the downpipe route. Outlets and accessible pipe sections are examined and cleared as required. Flushing follows removal so loosened material does not simply move the obstruction lower.
5. Observe the empty system. With the debris gone, we check the fall, joints and brackets. Any repair needed is identified against the now-visible gutter condition.

How long gutter clearance usually takes

An accessible house can often have its gutters cleared within a few hours. Dense growth, long runs or several blocked downpipes extend the visit, and taller properties need additional access planning. A blockage behind a conservatory or within an awkward hopper takes longer than loose leaves at an open eaves. Weather can interrupt safe working. We allow time to check the emptied system so the visit addresses the drainage route as well as the visible debris.

Clearance and repairs are different jobs

Removing debris restores the space within the gutter, but it does not correct a distorted run or a failed seal. Once the channel is clear, a flow check shows whether water reaches the outlet or remains in a low section. A local repair can then be described accurately. The source of the blockage also matters. Leaf litter from nearby trees differs from heavy moss shedding down a roof slope. Regular clearance may be enough for the first problem, while roof moss removal can address the second where the covering is suitable. Downpipe strainers or gutter guards are not a substitute for checking the system, as debris can collect around them.
