“great job amazing price and great customer service”
Birkenhead was planned on a grand scale in the 1800s. Hamilton Square and the streets around it, the big villas of Oxton and Claughton, and the terraces of Tranmere and Rock Ferry were almost all built with Welsh slate roofs, brick chimney stacks and plenty of lead.
A century and more later, the nails holding those slates rust through, slates slip and crack, lead at the stacks and valleys splits, and gutters behind parapets block. On the many houses now split into flats, one failing roof affects several homes.
We replace slipped slates, re-roof terraces and villas, repoint and re-lead chimneys, repair valleys and parapet gutters, rebuild flat roofs on rear extensions and fit new roofline.

Around Park Road West and the streets beside Birkenhead Park, larger nineteenth-century houses have substantial roof spans, tall chimneys and multiple intersecting slopes. Some buildings have been adapted for several households, leaving rooflights, service penetrations and later rear additions within an older roof form. The original slate pattern may survive on one section while another has been retiled. We inspect how those sections connect before deciding on a repair, with particular attention to concealed valleys and gutters that cannot be judged from the front elevation.
Bidston, Noctorum and the housing around the western side of town introduce older village pockets alongside twentieth-century semis and detached homes. Their tiled hips, garages and bay roofs need a different approach from the tall park-side buildings. A long roofline may have several gutter outlets, each receiving water from a different part of the house. We check the fall and support along those runs, especially where an extension has moved a downpipe. Later alterations can change the drainage without changing the appearance of the main roof.
Birkenhead's roofs range from open Mersey-facing positions to sheltered streets around parks and higher ground towards Bidston. Wind reaches the upper levels of tall villas, testing flashings beside stacks and dormers. Below tree cover, leaf debris can collect where two slopes meet and restrict a concealed gutter. These faults produce similar indoor staining but need different repairs. We examine the exposed roof details and the less visible drainage channels together, using the building's position and layout to guide the investigation.
Birkenhead is reached from our Wimboldsley base via the Cheshire side of the Wirral. On park-side streets, tall elevations and broad front gardens call for scaffold planned around the building's full height and shape. Where a house contains flats, access to affected rooms and the rear yard is agreed through the owner or managing contact. Smaller suburban plots need protection above garages and extensions. We set out material handling, waste removal and the proposed roof sections in the quote before the working area is established.
